Fly through problem...

Ok, I'm REALLY lost now... What am I doing wrong?? Things were fine until I started screwing around with the Ctl and shift combo.

My assembly is like a long box, and when I start to fly through, everything is fine and about half way through, the end of the box starts being "cut" and moves towards me.

So it's like I'm cutting from two ends.

This is a great feature, but if I can't control the "cutting plane" then it's useless.

Doubt it matters but I am using a Spaceball.

Are you doing a shift/F3/hold and drag LMB? if not
it will do this. It will also do it if things are not lined up and it will
actually make the camera collide with the part.....then you have to replace the
camera <g>

What I do is execute the orbit command.  Pick
with mouse a place on the assembly where you wish the clipping plane to be
located.  Escape the orbit command to get rid of the orbit thingy.
Now while in perspective mode, you can breeze through with the Spaceball until
you run into the clipping plane.

In what mode are you guys flying through the part? This sounds interesting but I don't know what you guys are doing. Are you in part mode? Please explain.

They are in the assy mode.

The same is true for flying through a part. As Jimmy said, the
disappearing is caused from flying through the clipping plane so you
need to establish where it is. A variation on the method is to zoom
close to the end of where you will be flying, picking Orbit then
clicking on the farthest point on the model. This will set the clipping
plane beyond your visible geometry. Now zoom back to the start of your
fly through and do it. If the farthest geometry is occluded by things
in between, you can orbit around a bit so it is visible, click on the
spot for clipping, orbit back and zoom out.

Curiosity, What is a clipping plane, what is it's function?

thanks

Good question. Guess? Maybe a representation of an horizon plane to place
a vanishing point for the perspective viewpoint? I'm sure someone will jump
in and enlighten us 🙂
