Hey I was wondering if there is any possible way to flat pattern a coil. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to flat pattern. Its a quarter turn of a full coil.
If it's flat and uniform, you would need to convert it to Sheet-Metal, set the thickness for the width of the coil and selet the top (inside) edge as you top surface, it may flatten. It would need to be a coil without a pitch.
Think of it as a thick sheetmetal that is a think strip.
The answer is not with Inventor not easy anyway you can get 3rd party software call SPI for inventor it will...
You draw it in inventor then click new icon for spi and poof unfolded.
The hard way in Inventor will take time to tell you.....
I just emailed SPI about getting their trial software. No response yet. You would think autodesk would be able to do this. Especailly for a $7000 dollar program. I have time, care to explain it? or can Post the file and you can try to unfold it?
you could post the file, it may be able to be flattened (depending on shape).
I no long have SPI I purchased it for a client to unfold air plane panels.
Do you want to hear a funny thing?
Sure you do.
Inventor rents SPI unfold that is what drives the sheet metal now they just rent the cheap end. Not sure if it is SPI that will not give autodesk all or too expensive for autodesk.
I am sure Autodesk will purchase them soon LOL...
This has a pitch and is not flattenable
