File > Open uses List not Details in View Menu

When I use File > Open or Place Component the Windows file browser opens in
List mode which means that I have to use the horizontal scroll bar to browse
the directory. I would like it to open in Detail mode [List and Detail are
some of the view choices under the View Menu of the Windows file browser
window] allowing me to browse with the vertical scroll bar. -- I think it's
ergonomically eaisier.

I can make the change from the View Menu but it doesn't hold. I have
checked to see that Windows 2000 is set for Details when using Windows
Explorer.

Are there any settings in Inventor to force Detail mode?

No. There are a lot of us who would prefer that option.

What about the sort order of the "File open" dialog box? Is there any way
to keep the files showing up in a sorted order?

Steve and others,

There is no setting that I'm aware of that can remember the last used the
view type (in the File-->Open or Place Component). I've logged a wish list
item to address this in a future release. Kent has made similar requests
for "save as" type and remembering last saved location as well that are
logged wish list items.

Thanks for your inquiry,

Hi,

The Wish List item has been logged as 658411 “1099260 - File open dialog box does not remember if you switch from list to detail view”

Thanks (and best regards),

-Hugh

I realize that this is an old thread, but it is the closest thing I have found that is similar to my issue.

Whenever I use the "OPEN" menu the column widths reset and my drawing titles are only partially visible.  Same thing happens in "Place Component" menu.  Would sure be nice if it accepted my dragging the column width and kept that setting for the next time.
