FG member with pre punched holes

Hi All,

Using this link I learnt how to create a custom profile for using with frame generator. Its really wondeerful that we can do this.

http://www.screencast.com/users/INCATCADGeeks/folders/Jing/media/57e2ace2-f3f9-4ac6-81d7-d1d240b8b997

I have a situation where I need to have holes on the members when generated from FG. Kind of like C-Channel with pre drilled/punched holes.

Does anybody know how to do this?

Thanks

You would have to use either an iPart or normal part (depending on hole placements) and the Rectangular Feature Pattern in one direction (you can control this with an equation too). I assume you are on 2008? If you are 2009, take a look at this for the Structural Shape Authoring Tool in 2009.

Thanks Pat.

That is very informative. I am sure this will help me improve my custom part design.

Do you know if I can create the channel with holes like in my attached image.

Thanks

Sorry, I do not know of a supported method for
including the pattern in the published part.

Hi,
I created the following frame using the FG in IV2009 Pro: -

http://screencast.com/t/EivSZOEZd

It has what you are looking for - channel with pre-punched holes.

The way to create them is to create the section as shown in the pdf posted my Mark Flayler and then simply add an extrusion to the longest length of channel you'll require.

You can then pattern your channel with your required slot as I have.

The only problem I found in doing it this way, is that when you subsequently use the mitre tool, or hope to trim the ends of the resultant frame member in any way, the pattern disappears. (as I've complained about here: -

Actually, it's a shame there's no way of stickying topics within the news groups - after all, we can't be the only people who want/need to use channel with slots within the frame generator. Edited by: Edgcrusher on Jan 30, 2009 1:19 PM
