FEA software...

I am currently looking to choose a FEA package for IV. I would like to hear from some of yous that are using FEA with IV... Just a basic package is required (less than $7K roughly). I would really like to hear if anyone has any experience with Cosmos/designstar. Thanx in advance.

I had some experience with Designspace from Ansys
and I liked it.  I did a natural frequency test on some medical equipment
and it did the job fast, easy, and really helped with the presentation. 
For simple analysis of parts and assemblies for under $7 it did what I
asked.  It has direct import of Inventor files, and and extremely easy to
use interface.  The assembly import and report generator helped as
well.  John Fehrens over at Ansys is a pretty good guy and I'm sure he'ld
give you a demonstration.

We use or have used both Design Star and Algor for
linear analysis.  We were a mixed bag, one for Design Star and two for
Algor.  We kept Algor.  Algor is very powerful yet the user interface
has not been as good as Design Star but with the latest revisions I believe its
as good if not better.  Algors yearly maintenance is much less then Design
Stars.

The both directly import AutoCAD and
Inventor.  Design Star has a link to the inventor file so if you change the
part the FEA model changes as well.  This can be cumbersome if you are not
careful.

What ever you make sure the sales person knows your
evaluating more than one, it tends to drive a better price.
