Export files with layer names

I am having trouble translating files to a customer who is using Mastercam. With most design software, the parts in my assemblies will keep their names when they translate but with Mastercam, each item gets put on a layer numbered 1 to whatever.

Is there any way to tranlsate out the part names to carry over to the layers in Mastercam. It is so much easier to find what you need when there is a name instead of a number and every time there is a change and I give him a new step file, he has to rename all the layers again. Some of these assemblies have hundreds of parts.

Please let me know if there are any suggestions.
