Error 1321 installing SP1

I'm getting an error installing SP1 for IV 2010. See attached screen shot.

How do you adjust Windows Installer Privileges?
Any idea how to fix this so I can install?

You need to be logged in as someone with "Administrator" privileges and the
problem should go away.

Blair,
I am the administrator. I'm the only one who ever used this computer other
than the original builder (IX Computers). Never had this happen with a SP
install before. I also tried downloading the SP1 file & running it from my
computer instead of the Auto install. Still got same problem.

I searched the web & found a relevant Microsoft registry fix for CD ROM
drive security setting (install requires reading IV 2010 Disc 1 DVD) . But
my registry was already correct per the fix, so that wasn't it.

I can't find anything else on this.

Gary,

In the readme we mentioned this paragraph
...

Your Operating System should be up to date with respect to service packs and security updates.
On Microsoft Vista, KB952696 is particularly important for the successful installation and running of Autodesk Inventor 2010

...

Did you install this Microsoft update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952696 prior to installing Sp1?

Gary,

We are wondering how you applied SP1.

From the bitmap you sent us we see that the location of
the adlmact_libFNP.dll file is somewhere on the Y: drive.

And another question:

Can you retry the install and when you run in these
type of error dialogs, thhey mean the installer cannot decrypt the
files.

One possible workaround that I see is to pay
attention to the location where this happens and then do the
following.

I take your example of the dll
called

Y:\x86\Inventor\program Files\Common Files
Folder\Autodesk Shared\Adlm\R1\admact_libFNP.dll

In this case I would check the properties of
admact_libFNP.dll or even the properties of the folder R1 the file sits
in.

Go to the "Advanced" button in the Properties
dialog

Chances are that you will see that the "Encrypt
contents to secure data" checkbox is checked like in attached
image.

Uncheck the encrypt checkbox.

Then press the Retry button on the Inventor
dialog.

Let me know what your results are.

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

I did not merge to an admin image. It was a standard SP
install attempt, nothing fancy. I'm a stand-alone user, no
network.

I attempted to install SP1 2 ways (always turning off
Antivirus & all programs):

First I just used the automated PS1 from the Communication
Center & just followed the instructions.

I attempted it probably 5 times with same error result.

Second I downloaded the SP1 from Autodesk site & followed
the instructions but just left the IV 2010 DVD Disc 1 in the drive this time
rather than wait to be prompted. (BTW-The IV Install disc 1 never attempted
to install automatically). I tried this a couple times with same
result.

My Y: drive is the DVD drive & the file referenced in the
error message  I assumed to be the one Inventor needs on the Disc 1 to
verify I have a licensed copy.
Why would SP1 try to
modify it?

Does that help?

Gary

Bob,

I just looked at the Inventor Disc 1 with Windows Explorer
& I cannot find the path reference in the Error Message (see
screenshot).

Any clues?

Hi Gary,

we never encounter error 1321 on XP OS, what about
click the Retry button? can you continue to install? if it cannot pass
by "Retry", Cancel it, try to install SP1 again. still encounter
it?

if you still failed to install SP1, please
reinstall your Inventor first, then try to install SP1 again.

Kevin,

I tried "Retry" till my finger hurt. No luck.  Would
doing just a repair work? Is that possible?

any work arounds?

Warren,

All suggestions that I can think of are embedded somewhere in this long email thread
The two most important things to consider are:

1) When you are on VISTA, install KB952696 prior to installing Sp1.
2) When you have decrypting problems and the Error 1321 shows up, read the file location in the error dialog and manually decrypt the files on the hard drive in that location via the Properties context menu in Windows Explorer.

I am also very curious to know what the solution was to the originally reported problem and I understood that the original problem was on XP (so my tip nr 1) would not apply.
Unfortunately Dennis took the discussion off-line.

Hi Bob,

1... I'm not using Vista, I'm using XP pro 32bit
2... Not sure what you mean there? do you mean find that file on my INV2010 discs then "Decrypt".... anyone want to give me a dummies guide to this?
3... Why did he take it off line I wonder?

it's a rather strange error as it infers that it's trying to modify a file on the DVD???

Thanks

Warren

My recommendation was the same as Autodesk. Complete uninstall, registry
cleanup, and folder deletion in Program files. I have not heard anything
back from Gary as yet regarding success/fail.

The only reason I took this off line was because of the need for a
lengthy conversation and troubleshooting session.

When installing most software, there needs to be adequate space on the
C:\ drive for temporary files to be written during install. This could
also be the issue.

I have seen systems with adequate free space that still failed because
of an extreme amount of old temp files. Try cleaning all temp files out
of Windows folder\Temp and Documents and Settings in xp befoe reinstalling.

Glad the clean reinstall worked for you Warren.
Unfortunately it also wipes out all evidence that could point us to the "real" problem so other readers of this NG could avoid the same problem in the future.

Thanks.

I'm not seeing very many users with install errors like this but here's
some (or a combination) of the things I know affect installs:

1. Failure to turn off the UAC (Vista only)
2. Having some portion of Antivirus services still running after tuning
off or disabling the AntiVirus.
3. Some, not all or the worst AV offenders for installation errors"
a. Norton (Symantec), although some users report success with newer
versions.
b. AVG, McAfee are also on my "suspect" list.
4. User permissions - always install as Administrator to assure that
registry entries are completely written.
5. Make sure that IT has not excluded some registry locations for writing.
6. Having way too many temp files can also affect installs.
7. Not having enough free space on your C: drive
8. Having an outdated MSI installer.
9. Having applications running during installation.
