Drawing name

Is there a way to change the name of the person who did a drawing. Down in the lower right corner in the "drawn" box.

I'm using someone else's old computer, and it keeps putting their name in there by default.

Thanks

Where to do that depends on where the template you are using pulls that information from.  If I had to guess, it comes from the iProperties of the idw.

In a drawing (idw) that you have originated on someone else's computer, go to the top of the browser, click on the drawing's name, right click, and select iProperties.  Go to each tab of the iProperties, and change that user's name to yours.  Apply your changes and close iProperties.  The name that shows up in the title block should now be the one that you entered into the drawing's iProperties.

You could also change Inventor's application options to show your name by default on new documents.  Go to tools tab, and select application options.  Once you are in the application options dialog box, select the 'general' tab, and change the 'User name:' setting to your name.  The only caveats to this method are that 1.) by your description of what is happening, you appear to be logged in as the normal user of the computer, and changes you make to application options will affect that user (ie: if you don't change it back, then he will be you on all the drawings he creates until he notices and changes the name in application options back to his own), and 2.) even if you do this in application options, you still have to go change the iProperties of the drawings that you created before you updated the name in application options.

Hi pmh1718,

If the title block is pulling the user name from the file iProperties (most likely it is) you can do thisa couple of ways:

  • Edit the iproperties of the drawing and/or model file and change it there. You might have to interrogate the title block definition in order to figure out which iproperty is being called into the title block. Or you can flip through the iproperty tabs and change the names to see which one impacts the title block. This will change the current file you're dealing with, and this is the method you can use for existing drawings.
  • To change this Inventor wide and for all future drawings, you can go to the Tools tab and click the Application Options button and then look on the General tab for the User Name box.

I hope this helps.

Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Curtis

If you are asking about Inventor 2012, it's exactly the same.

Note: Autodesk is the name of the company, not the name of the software.

That's the title block, and you can open the template file and find the Drawing Resources section in the browser.  Copy the default one and modify it, or create a new one from scratch.
