Do not show this message ever again

How many times do I have to check that box for it to take effect?

When you open an assembly and it asks if you want rebuild it.  Supposedly if you enable checking for recomputable updates on save it'll stop it from happening.  It doesn't.  This isn't listed in the list of prompts you can disable, either.

Kind of like the check boxes to remember my password and keep me logged in on this site.  Sometiimes I wonder why I even bother to check them.

Have you tried click the checkbox "Defer Update" at the appication Options?

Application Options

Then are you opening the Assem from Project?

I haven't tried that, but I'm not sure I want to.  What are the implications of having this checked?  If any components have changed, I do want the assembly to be updated to reflect all changes.  Defering makes me think it won't do this.

Here's what the dialog box is telling me:

Based on what this is telling me, I have enabled "Prompt to save for re-computable updates."  It was initally not enabled.  However, I never been prompted regarding any recomputable updates.

We've also encountered this infurating problem, and haven't been able to figure out a solution or workaround. In my company's case, this apparent bug is preventing us from storing the assemblies in a library and setting them to read-only.

A couple of quick questions:

Does your assembly utilize iParts and/or iLogic?

If you save your assembly and then try to close immediately thereafter, do you get another prompt to save?

Hope we can get this problem narrowed down a bit so that Autodesk guys can find a solution.

We do have iParts in the assembly and yes, I can save before I close and still get prompted to save.  Although the window that pops up with the list of what gets saved and what doesn't often has everything marked as "no."

Bill,

I think thats a new feature in 2012Smiley Sad  If you check the "Never show again" box, it is only good for that session of Inventor.  For some reason, it doesnt remember this prompt setting when you close inventor.

I posted about it too.   http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Inventor-2012-missing-prompt/m-p/3247784#M419732

Fortunately, I am still using 2011.  I just cant force myself to load 2012.

I'd agree except that "Do not show this again this session" is one of the other prompts.  If I only wanted it to work for one session, I'd check that.  I usually did, but I got tired of seeing the message at all so I went for the "never" option.

I hope they hurry up and fix some of this stuff.  I'd like to see it before I retire in 19 years or so.

Judging from your comment that most of the assembly components are listed as "No" when saving the assembly, I suspect that one of those read-only components may require updating. Inventor is dreadful when it comes to identifying which one (if any) of those components is actually out-of-date, so you will have to open up each individually and, after removing the read-only file property, update and save that file.

The next time you open your assembly, you'll be prompted one last time to update it. Now when you save, it will be using the up-to-date versions of all the components, and it shouldn't prompt you again.

My company's problem originated from some read-only iPart members that mysteriously required updated despite never having changed the factory. Inventor never gave us any warnings or "lightning bolt" buttons as the assembly level, so it required quite a bit of detective work to get to the root of the problem.

Hope this helps,

Steve

I'm only using INV 2010 but I assume they still have an option to do the following in 2012:

Go in to your application options, select your prompts tab, and find the prompt that you are trying to edit. There should be three columns: one for the prompt text, another for the response and finally the prompt itself. If you right click on the prompt it will give you the same options to never show it again like the pop up does in your session, try changing this setting here. This way there should be no reason a read only file would effect the setting because its your default.

I was really hoping I missed that option when I searched for it before.  Apparently they removed it, because it's not there anymore.  Maybe that's why it doesn't work when I select it from the dialog box?

I have had this since day 1 of 2012. I gave up trying to fix it. We don't use any I-parts, etc. This is the first thing I do when I come in and open a model. It's like some said, as soon as you shut down Inventor or restart your computer it "forgets" your settings. Might not be Inventor, might be a coflict with Windows 7 or another program, but it does get anoying.

Bill,

I totally agree with you.  I think thats exactly why it doesnt remember that you picked "Never show again" when you close Inventor.  Its just not there.  Its there in 2011, but not in 2012.

I just tried hackinig the 2012 registry and added the same keys as in 2011, but no luck.  Still get the message after closing/reopening Inventor.

In the thread I had bitching about it I was told by an AutoDesk rep that they plan to fix it in version 2014.

Unfortunately, yes, this is still an issue in Inventor 2013. It's identified for fixing in 2014.

A possible workaround may be to go to the App Options, Save tab & check the "Prompt for Recomputable Updates" setting.

Note that this will result in certain files being saved that perhaps wouldn't otherwise have been saved, (since the reason for the save can be recomputed real time), so it may not be suitable for every scenario; it should stop the constant dialog from appearing, once all the files have been saved though.

Hope this helps,

Chris
