Dimension a spiraled coil

I created a simple spiraled coil IV10, and in my IDW I can't place a center mark in the center of the spiral. How do you dimensiom this? I also want to dimension ID and I can't. Something that you would think is so simple is holding me up.

I'm not having trouble on this end. Could you post the model? What kind of
end conditions does the coil have?

Worst case, you can place a work axis in the model and project it into the
view on the idw then use sketch to draw in a phantom circle for the ID.

I misunderstood what type of coil you were trying to make. I was thinking
of a coiled spring.

The center mark is fairly easy if you place a work axis in the model and
project it into the idw view. The ID is more difficult since it doesn't
actually exist. I just used a sketch and drew in a circle with a phantom
line at approximate location. Is this what you where looking for?

Yes that is exactly what I needed to do. I guess the ID has to fudged a bit but that'll work. How did you project the work axis into the IDW view? I already have it in the model. I'll need to learn how to do that since I create quite a few coils of different shapes...

Right click on the view and click "edit view". On the second tab (options)
check the box that says "project work geometry". You can then go into the
browser tree and turn the visibility on/off of any work features in the
part.

What apparently IV cannot do, is project in a sketch the centerlines obtained from the work planes existing in the solid model. Consequently, the phantom circles you are using to limit the ID and OD cannot be anchored to anything meaningful. Am I missing something?

I am using Inventor 2011.  I need to add a center mark to a drawing view (without a circle) to locate a point, and I saw your post.  How did you project the axis??  I can't find the option that you mentioned in your post.

Add the work features to your model. In your drawing expand the view in the browser by clicking of the plus sign for the view you want to add the centerline to until your model is exposed. Right click on your model and select "Include Work Features....".
