We have just started using Autodesk Inventor 2011 pro, however we have a major problem. We require to be able to represent the same part with alternative levels of detail. The reason for this is we produce large control panel assemblies which can have over a thousand terminal blocks. This is not a problem until we convert the assemblies to 2D drawings at a scale of 1:10. The detail then just turns out as a blob when the drawing is plotted. When we produce sub assembly drawing at a larger scale we require the full level of detail. I have found a work around by producing an assembly which contains two reference models (one fully detailed terminal block and one simplified). I then use levels of detail to suppress the version I don't want. This gives the correct BOM quantity but it seems a convoluted work around. I have tried I-parts to suppress features but this does not work as it sees the part as being modified when changing the representation. Has anybody else had this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. People who produce large assemblies such as oil platforms or power stations must have the same issues.
