Datum Target Identifier

Just thought I would pass this on.

Placing a Datum Target Identifier on a dwg.
When your are in the Datum Target dialog box under Dimension, you have to type in a number indicating the diameter of the datum target circle.
Normally you can't put in a diameter symbol before the
number, but I just found out a way.

Make sure your Num Lock light is on.
While holding down the ALT button on your keyboard, type in
0216 using the numeric keypad. This will put in a diameter symbol.
ALT 0216 diameter symbol
ALT 0176 Deg symbol
ALT 0177 Plus / Minus symbol

Another problem is, after placing the Datum Target you can't
dimension to it. That can be solved by putting a sketch of a circle (phantom line) with it's diameter and locating dimensions on the dwg view. Then you can placing the Datum Target Identifier on the the circle.
This is not Pretty but it works.

If anyone knows a better way, let me know

A wish list to Autodesk:

Allow dimensioning to the symbol
Have a diameter symbol already in the dialog box
Have a option that sizes the datum circle diameter

This is very high up on my complaint list.  I
brought it to the attention of Autodesk about 1.5-2 years ago and it still isn't
addressed!

My complaints:

1. no target size text will fit in the baloon
- unless it's only one digit).  I hate the look of a leader coming out of
the baloon.

2. no dialog to include the diameter
symbol

3. the size of the target circle should be tied to
the diameter you key in - right now as you know they are independent. currently
you need to eyeball the size.

4. no ability to accurately locate or dimension to
the target circle.

Let's hope this gets addressed by R10 or R11 - we
wouldn't want to wait as long as R12 now would we?  <heavy

Your workaround with sketch geometry is the only
way I know of to get around this.  Doing this frequently will cause you to
pull your hair out in frustration.

The character map (start, programs, accessories, system tools in W2K) will allow you to cut and paste symbols etc. like that if you can't remember the character set codes.

Autodesk...  Is this on the list for 2013? New Cad manager at a Manufacturer and this is a problem.  Users are having to create manual sketched to then sit a Datum Circle on it so it can represent a correct size.  Please reply...
