Cutting out material in assembly view using a second piece

I am wondering if there is a way to use a part of one piece located in an assembly to cutout a portion of another piece located in an assembly when both pieces occupy the same space?

The situation I'm in is that I've got an L bracket (piece 1) resting on top of a piece representing a concrete block (piece 2).  The L bracket has metal studs attached that protrude into the concrete. Idealy I'd like the mass of concrete located in the same space as the studs removed so that when I generate cross sections everything adds up.

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks,

Cody

Edit the part to be cut within the context of the assembly.
Right click and Copy Object as surface the faces of the second part into the first part.
Use Split part or Sculpt to cut the first part.
Attach your assembly here if you can't figure it out.

Thanks for the help. I gave it a shot but was unable to solve the problem.

I was able to copy and create a surface in parts bracket 13625L and bracket1352 redo:1.

Hoever I could not manage to get these surfaces to interact or move to Grating Oil Water Sump v2:1 (the part that I'm trying to cut). I've attached the assembly. hopefully it helps solve the problem.

Hi northweststavecody,

In addition to JDMather's help, this link might offer some assistance:

I hope that helps.

Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

What about using an iFeature to do the material removal?

Perfect! iFeature is the winner.

Can you help me with my project? I am working on an assembly file and I want to expose the frame of my bike to work on the inside. Do you know how to do that on the assembly file?

An assembly must have parts.  Where are your parts? *.ipt files

I am attempting to make a bike. I started with the bike body. I will attach my part.

Also, this video might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3Q2wdh3HGQ

I am following the steps in this video. I got stuck on minute 11:37 and onward. How did he expose the material on the assembly file?

That is the slice graphics command. You can either right click while in the sketch mode and select it, or hit the F7 key. This can only be fine during a sketch.

I tried to click F7 but it just made everything grey. In the video it revealed the inside. I am still stuck.

Thank you for your help.
