Creating threads without Excel

I am using Inventor 5.3 at home, and I have not got MS Office on my PC: I use Open Office or Star Office, and my friend uses Lotus SmartSuite, and when either of us tries to create a thread on a part, we get the message "Cannot open Excel application". Is there any way to associate the .xls file to other office suites, or are we stuck with having to spend out on MS Office 97 or higher?

Hi!

AFAIK you must have specifically Excel unfortunately... I'm not sure what is
the "minimum" version. I use 97 SR2.

Here in GB, a little known fact you can upgrade to
MS Office from Lotus SmartSuite, all quite legal.
