Creating geometry on a curved surfaces

I have a cyclindrical sheet metal part (.1 thick) that has a series (or a pattern) of cutouts that are radial to the CL of the cylinder. The cutouts are made on a flat metal sheet and then folded to the correct OD before butt welding the ends together.

If I create a workplane on the OD, then create a sketch of the cutout geometry and do an extrude cut, the geometry of the part will not be perfect as the WP is flat and does not take into effect the curve of the OD.

Is there a way to make the cutout geometry on a flat pattern and then fold the piece to the correct OD? This would make the part correct and is how the part is manufactured.

Thanks in advanced!

M,

Wonderful, I got it and a big relief off of my shoulders.

One last question:

I wish to change the thickness from .47 to .9144.

When I do this it doesn't work. You have some sort of formula, what is it and how do I change it to .9144.

Thanks again!

Uh, I forgot to tell you: when you apply a bend, the fillet radius is
intended as the internal radius of the bend, while you have
dimensioned the external radius.
So your bends need a radius of R-Thickness, this is what I used in the
part.

So how do I change the expression you have fx.047 to the O.D. - .036 in sketch 1? How did you write the expression?

I owe you a bottle of Jack Daniels for all your troubles.

Thanks

Give this a shot.

If you double-click on it you find that I changed its numerical value
and I wrote "Thickness".
The constant "Thickness" sets the thickness of the sheet metal part,
and you can change it opening the sheet styles window (the first icon
in the toolbar, see image). Simply change the thickness of the part here.

To write an expression in a dimension you have just to double-click on
it and to type in the expression.

Thanks!
