Creating a cutout on a sphere

Can anybody help me please. I am trying to create a cutout in the form of a ring laid onto the face of a sphere. I have tried creating workplanes to allow me to sketch the required feature but Inventor does not seem to allow me to create the plane at the right angle. To try to make the problem clearer I have created a profile which I have revolved around it's centre axis. Part of the profile creates the top half of a sphere. Onto the face of the sphere I wish to recess a ring (as though it were a porthole) and then repeat the feature to create 12 "portholes" around the face of the sphere. Am new to Inventor and is probably simple for the experts but not for a bumbling amateur like me. lol

diggles,
Your .ipt is in 5.0sp2, so it's useless to post back a 5.3 part.
But:
1) Create a WPlane using x-axis and xy origin plane giving it a (15d?) value
2) Create another Wplane using surface of sphere and your new Wplane
3) New Sketch on the latest plane
4) Project sphere geometry onto sketch
5) Draw your "porthole" geometry and constrain
6) Finish sketch and extrude/cut as desired
7) Polar pattern using y-axis
have fun,
darvin
