Copy & Paste Draft View

Why on earth can't I copy and paste a Draft View?

Hi,

Currently copy/paste is not supported on Draft views.
Is is something you use often? The reason I ask is.... it is not a highly
requested item.

Also you have the following ways to copy the view.

1. Copy/Paste in Sketch mode
2. Copy sheet and paste into new IDW. Then copy that and paste back into
current IDW. Delete other unecessary objects. I know this is not pretty, but
this will help get the draft view with all the annotations.

Thanks,

I have a simple 2-D sketch that I need to repeat 6 times (with a few changes) in the same drawing. If I could create the 1st one and then copy the draft view with the annotations, it would save lots of time.

Copy and Paste is such a basic function. It seems that you should be able to copy and paste anything without convoluted work-arounds.

Could you have created this as a User Defined Symbol?

I have been using sketched symbols before for a while. But when there are instances you need to pull dimension from the sketch symbols, there is a problem. Hence going to draft view is another option which I thought.

A suggestion for Autodesk. Is it possible to add copy draft view to the "Drawing resource transfer wizard"

It will be cool functionality.

What essentially we can do it open drawing in silent/background and go to that draft view which might/should be existing is other drawing and paste sketch of the draft view in that other draft view.

It will be great if this can be automated from Autodesk side.

Please let me know if it is already done as I am using Inventor 2013. I am not sure if 2014 has this

Thanks

What is the proper way to copy a standard note from sheet to sheet in a drawing set?

I started going down the path of creating the note in a Draft View, but that cannot be copied and pasted like model views can...?

Should I be thinking about this another way?

Thanks,

Ben

Can you post a file with an example of what you are trying to copy?

Draft views cannot be copied over from one sheet to another or from one drawing to another.

You can however copy the sheet and it will bring over any associated draft views. The correct way would be co create it as Symbol epecially since they can be linked to a view with a leader and which can be turned off. So the note/symbol will show up floating on the view but will move with the view.

2016 has extra functionality for creating symbol library from idw's or dwg's.

here is the help page for 2016

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/201...

Edit:

to save you from extra work you can copy the sheet over several times, clean up all the views and add new ones along with the existing draft view note. I hope this temporarily solution will not become habit for you.

Sure. The note about galvanizing (which is only on some sheets,) and the PRELIMINARY note (which needs to vary from sheet to sheet in my .idw file).

Thank you for your help!

PRELIMINARY is a symbol note. I have similar note showing elevation for various things and it has a prompted entry to ask me what value do I want to show.

Galvanizing note just like all my welding, painting, coating, etc. are symbol notes as well.

Nice. Thank you.

Is there a way to get a pull-down menu of constrained responses in the prompted entry menu?

I'm thinking for the drawing status symbol, instead of just prompting you to enter whatever you want, it would list our company's canned responses.

(PRELIMINARY, FOR TAKE-OFF, FOR FABRICATION, FOR BID, etc.)

Thanks again,

Ben

Only if you use the drawing iProperties, Status tab, Design State field which has only 3 opions: WorkInProgess, Pending, Released.

Or if you use ilogic but for simplicity I would create all those as separate symbols (groupe them in a folder) and place, replace the one in need.
