Constraints

A part constrained in a assembly using a single constraint
becomes fixed in position and can not be dragged along that
constrained plain. Is there a fix for this or is it just me

Extremely un-happy with 2008

Is the part adaptive? Have you updated to Service Pack 1? I have no issues
like that. See attached...

Have sp 1 and adaptivity is off. The zip file is
4.5 meg so i cant up-load it. All seem well with
small assemblies

Have you grounded that component, or is it located in another assembly?

If the files can be viewed publically, here's the newsgroup Large File ftp
site address:

In order to post here, the file must be zipped,
and under 1.5MB in size. If the file is larger than that, then post the
files at
this location:

You can post the file as is to ftp.interlancentral.com -
month>2007
folder.

Create a network place OR use Internet Explorer to post.

In IE, Select File > Login

username: newsgroup password: Inventor1

or use this link: ftp://newsgroup:Inventor1@interlancentral.com

This is the location that the Autodesk newsgroups use to post large files.

Keep in mind that it is a public site, just like this newsgroup.

Full information is located in the FAQ that is posted here weekly by Kent
Keller.

Let us know in the this newsgroup when you posted it, and the name of your
file.

Have up-loaded the file to September2007/struc.zip

I think it is a problem with workplains

There is something wrong with Flush 32 and Flush 24.
If I suppress Flush 32 , your Turn Buckel can once again move freely.

Is it a conflict between constraints?

This might not have anything to do with his problem but, in versions past, I remember having some large assemblies where you couldn't drag even unconstrained parts. Especially if there were adaptive parts, even if they seemed totally unrelated to where the problem was happening. I haven't pushed it that far lately. I often found it when I constructed pipe runs from individual components constrained only to the ones they touched. Once you got 50-100 pipes, tees and elbows it would start to bog down until eventually it wouldn't allow anything to be dragged. It seemed to be trying very hard to find a way to mess it up and would occasionally flip part of the piping off in another direction. When you added more constraints to eliminate these potential flips it got better.

I don't know what his assembly looks like but he might try constraining things a little more to eliminate unintended possible movement that Inventor tries to check before it will allow things to be dragged. Unless this problem has been fixed.

I am also having this problem, and it affects any size assembly. When I go to select a part to move it the part does not stay highlighted.

I am using Inventor 11 & 2008.

I think I sent AD a data set at one time and they logged this as an issue.
