Computer specs

I am just about to place an order for this computer, but before I do, I just want to be sure that this system will work efficiently with IV 2010 Routed Systems. Please see attached
Thx
Kev

The only point I would make is to check the graphics card with
supported cards on the Autodesk web site. other that that it looks like
a decent machine.

I'm not sure I would go with a i5 over an i7. I think the price of this computer is maybe even a little high.

My thoughts.
I would try to go for an i7 processor.
The amount of ram looks good.
I would try like crazy to go for Windows 7 64 bit over XP 64 bit. A giant improvement in my opinion
I would have a look at a GeForce card instead of the Quadro if using DirectX. A very high end gaming card will only set you back about $400.
Do you work off a network? If not, I would also consider going for an SSD or a 10,000 RMP HDD.

Go check out XI computers. I think you will find you can build a much higher end cad system there than what you are getting for your money.

Paul, I don't understand the point of having your signature on this newsgroup. It pollutes the board and does not have a purpose.

Can't you shut it off on here?

Depending on the size of your assemblies I would consider going with 8GB
of RAM. At the very least try to get the 4GB in a configuration that
would allow you to simply purchase and snap in an additional 4GB if you
need it down the road.

This is a clone computer. Is there anything wrong with using a clone computer for Inventor?

Price is a little high... don't forget you need MS office too. Kevin if you would like I can price out a different system when I get home in a few hours that will be a bit better and about the same price. Or check out cyberpowerpc.com start here http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_IV/

Figure on 8GB of memory, mys system on reboot sits at 2.8GB, and if I have
done anything, it's always over 3.5GB. Not sure I would be going with XP64
operating system. As stated, you will need Microsoft Excel for Inventor.

I have just purchased a new PC for our drafting department and I am in the process of benchmarking it againts our current systems. It has the following options:

1KW Power Supply

Processor:
Intel® Core™ i7 920 2.66GHz (8MB Cache) Quad
Core Processor

Operating System:
Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64bit, English

Memory:
12GB DDR3 1333MHz (3x 4GB) Tri Channel Memory

Hard Drive:
256GB SSD - Solid State Drive

Video Card:
Dual 1.8GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 285 - SLI®
Enabled

CD ROM/DVD ROM:
Single Drive: 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW)
w/double layer write capability

This system came in at $5K but our in our early testing it works very well. We work with large complex assemblies and with the 12GB of ram and 1.8Gb video cards have eliminated the lag we used to see in creating drawings and when modifying assemblies. I have yet to tax cpu usage over 30% but have had the ram usage in the 8Gb range.

The reason that your CPU usage hasn't gone over 30% is that Inventor is not multi-threaded, and therefore can not take advantage of multiple cores/CPUs (except in Studio).

Go FAST FSB.
