Can't edit sketches or features!?!?

Hi,

I'm back with another dumb newbie question :o)

I've modeled a swept tube for our robot frame. Created an assembly and added 2 occurances. Added holes to original tube and they show up fine in the assembly. Then I built a u-bolt muffler clamp. Holes in clamp were in the wrong place so I go to edit sketch and I get:

"Cannot modify the library file C:(path)" Then:"Unable to prepare part for edit. Updating your part is required to allow the edit. Update now?" I press "Yes" and it loops back to the first error message.

Then I realize that my tube frame really does not need the holes so I want to delete that feature but get the same error message.

Other parts from samples, tutorials, downloads edit fine. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong setting up this project. We have 2 weeks to finish this project and I thought we were on a roll but now we are stuck. Can anyone please help?

Best regards,

Henry

Hello Henry,
The part that you want to edit is in a Library folder for the current
project. These are read as read only by Inventor. If you need to change
the parts either move them to your workgroup or make another Project whose
Workgroup points to the Library parts. Make that project active and you
will then be able to edit them.

Thanks Rob, I will give it a shot. However, how do you "make the project active". There is so much I need to learn.

That means switch to that project, edit
the part then copy it back to the library.
