Autodesk 2009 Grahphics Errors

We have been having issues in an school lab with Inventor behaving correctly on aging Dell Precision WorkStation 450s. I am hoping the Nvida drivers were just out of date since they have now all been upgraded to because users have been reporting numerous issues including outright Inventor crashes. For some unexplained reason over half of the lab keeps switching to software rendering mode the slowest and least useful over using directx. Panning within a 2D document using the scroll button has also randomly stopped working on and off for many users. Now running Quadro Release 176.04 listed as performance drivers for Nvida's site. They list Autocad specific drivers but we do not have Autocad 2009 installed only the Inventor package along with Revit and 3dsmax. Am I using the right drivers now and what could be causing these issues? Thanks Daniel

The 1GB of memory is really small. Can you try
increasing the memory on one of the machines to at least 2GB to see if the
instability problem is eliminated.

If the software was installed with any A/V software
active on the machines, this will lead to instability problems.

Yeah we would like to upgrade to new machines but that is not going to happen at this point. A RAM upgrade may be in order though I will have to see if more RAM makes much of a difference. Can the video card max out as well possibly causing issues? We do have Symantec Corporate edition on the base image I am not sure of the order of installation. One image per hardware configuration is made in this case and then broadcast to the lab via Novell Zenworks.
