Appearance problems

I have a few questions:

Please can someone list all the different ways I can colour a part because it's just a nightmare.

Select it from the appearance drop down menu.

Right click an item in the solid bodies folder and choose properties.

Open the appearance manager, click a feature and then choose the colour in the manager window.

Also, what is the differnet between 'as part' and 'as body?'

I just spent ages trying to fix a part which was labeled as 'aluminum - flat' but was not that colour.

In the end I had to rename the apperance in teh manager and then it fixed it.

I also have problems with exploded IPNs not updating when colours are changed in the assembly.

As part encompasses the entire part.  As body is just one specific solid body.

You have found the ways to color a part.  There is also where to color the part that can be confusing as well.  You can color a part in the part model or you can color a part within the assembly environment.

What I would do to avoid too much confusion is find a method that works for you and stick to that way as not to breed too much confusion in your own mind.  All these methods are not meant to totally confuse you as much as they are generated to accomodate different types of users that like different methods then you.

Hope this helped you.

Ways that i'm aware of:

Nothing selected, dropdown at top will change "part" color.

In browser, solids, selected solid, either right-click > properties or dropdown at top will change "body" color.

In browser, feature, right-click > properties or dropdown at top will change the color of that feature.

You can also select different stuff directly in the graphic window depending on your selection settings, so:

In window, Body priority, right-click > properties or dropdown at top will change the "body" color.

In window, Feature priority, right-click > properties or dropdown at top will change the color of the feature.

In window, Face/edge priority, right-click > properties or dropdown at top will change the color of the selected face(s)

Hierarchy of colors is something like this:

face > feature > body > part

So a face color overrides a feature color, a feature color overrides the body color, etc.

Hope this helps.
