3D Model Sites

Good day all,

From a recent post it got me to thinking about how everyone gets files of standard parts (and some not) from various sites. I thought a thread with everyones input would be good to compile a listing of such sites.... I will get the ball rolling with these;

Have a great day!

I don't deal with a lot of "standard" parts. If I can't get a solid model directly from my component supplier, that is guaranteed 100% accurate, I then break out the calipers and steel rulers and build the model myself. Or at least get drawings from the supplier and build my solid model. I'm not going to trust a part posted on the web that is not 100% guaranteed. It could have been correct two years ago but production has changed a bit and now the mounting holes are in a different spot/pattern.

I've downloaded part files from well known manufacturers that were wrong.
Always check before committing to tooling or production purchase.

RDyson,

Interestingly enough, that happened to me yesterday. I grabbed a motor model from Baldor (off their site!) for the exact motor we bought. When fitting into my assembly I had a hydraulic pump that by all rights shouldnt stick out when coupled with the motor...but did. Turns out the model is 3" longer than the drawing and the actual motor. Stupid thing. They extended the center body too much when making the motor, otherwise it was dimensionally perfect.

As said, double checking the important details of a downloaded model, very important.

No one has mentioned McMaster-Carr yet. I've used them quite a lot, even for things like gears which we purchased from another vendor. Since that other vendor had zero cad models and gears are pretty much standardized.
