Can a 3-D sketch be exported from a part file an imported or pasted into an assembly file? I see an option in the browser for 2d sketch copy but not for 3D sketch.
Why would you ever need a 3D sketch at the assembly level?
Simply place part file with the 3D sketch into the assembly file.
I need to save an assembly file as iges so the 3D sketch in the part is editable for an vendor to place work points at the intersecting curves.
When I save a copy as IGES I dont see the 3D sketch in the part even though the part file was saved to include 3d sketch.
Therfore I figured I could just copy and paste the 3D sketch into the IGES.
I just tried an experiment and it worked fine for me.
What Options do you have set (show screen capture) on open of the IGES file?
A simple part (IPT) to IGES is no problem.
The issue is I have an assemblt (IAM) 2 parts. One part has the 3D sketch. When I sav a copy as IGES, then open the IGES I cant edit the 3D sketch.
Hope that is clear. The help section says it can be done.
Here is the import dialouge window for iges
Thats odd.
If I start a new IPT and derive the IAM and save, then save copy as IGES and open it the 3D sketch is shows up and is editable. I dont think I need that extra step though.
Is has to do with the IGES option on open.
