Clock speed is important (even for the multi-core stuff), but thats a pretty small difference in speed. You'd have to be really pushing the system to tell the difference, at which point its time to start looking at more appropriate hardware for the next 4-5 years. From one release to the next you are generally "safe" for performance assuming everything else stays the same.
