2008 student edition limitations

Hi All

Can someone from Autodesk answer this ?

We have an employee who is going to college where they use 2008 student
edition and she has designed a set of shelves for our office. If these files
were created in the student edition I believe they are flagged with this
information? if these files are opened and saved in the commercial 2008
version at work is the flag removed? or is there a risk of commercially
created files being re-flagged as student?

No...

I would not let the student take any files home, editing them with a Student
license might flag them...

Hi JD

It is more than likely that she has just used 'student addition' as a
generic term, does the version licensed for schools / colleges behave
differently to the student edition or does it still flag the file in a way
that could contaminate commercial work ?

Personally I think it is far safer for her to keep the college stuff away
from the work PC's but I have been asked to ask the question.

I'm just copying this stuff from Autodesk documentation -

2.2.4 Educational Institutional Version. If Autodesk identifies the Software as an “Educational Institutional Version” in the applicable User Documentation, You may Install and Access one (1) copy of the Software on up to the Permitted Number of Computers, only for educational purposes (as further specified in the applicable User Documentation) and for no other purpose. Do NOT mix "student" files with work files.

Just as a test, create an assembly using your work edition, and add some "student" files. From what others have posted here, that *assembly* will be flagged as a student version now.

Student versions of software are intended to allow students to learn the
software. Any file that is saved in a student version will have a flag set
that causes a banner to appear in drawings. There is no way to remove that
banner.

A year or two ago someone posted a part here that they had problems
modeling. Someone using a student version helped them with their modeling
problem. As a result, all of their assembly drawings had that banner. Once
they remodeled the part in their commercial version of Inventor, the banner
no longer displayed.

Thanks for the clarification. The employee has just been designing a shelf
unit at college to keep all our drawing folders in at work which we will
manufacture in house, at least we know to keep the files completely
isolated.
