the yellow dot

can anyone tell me why, when using the rectangle and other commands in sketch mode, the yellow dot trails behind the cursor crosshairs? also the position indicator does not update until i stop moving the mouse. this is driving me nuts!

You asked this yesterday and I asked if you had SP1
installed.  You didn't reply.  In addition let me ask what video card
are you using?

It's a graphics performance issue. What card and driver are you using? What is your resolution?
What is your color depth? What does Inventor Hardware Diagnostics say? Post the info and we'll fix
your problem.

Are we talking a time lag or a displacement? Most
probably time lag when moving fast? Or are you zoomed in close and have your
sketch snap on.

Tony -

Kick the optimization down to Conservative.
For whatever reason, the 3DLabs GLINT chipset runs Inventor 6 better on the
Conservatinve setting, not the Full.

In case you don't know, you have to close all
Inventor windows for the change to occur.  Did you do that
too?

I had a 3D Labs card in my machine at home and found the performance during beta testing to be awful
and had exactly the problem you are describing so I swapped it for an "old" Quadro2 card I had in
lying around in the workshop. If I get time this evening I will put my VX1 back in and see if I can
find out what is up (providing someone else hasn't posted the solution)

i just tried what you suggested, setting the optimization and closing the window. it is better than before but the dot still lags behind the crosshairs and the position indicator does not update until i stop moving the mouse

I'm running a VX1 and the yellow dot definitely lags the cursor.

I kind of like it, it makes me feel like I'm a really speedy IV
superuser who's faster than a speeding computer. That's my story and
I'm sticking with it until I can afford a faster system 😉

Doing a little research, the conservative setting uses SwapType of 2 which is what IV5.3 used for
older drivers. Just a suggestion, but you could try using an older driver, say 2.16.0597 for
example and see what happens.

Sorry.  That fixed the problem for us.
Good Luck, I feel your pain!

Thanks, I might try that.

It's a bit ironic that I switched from that to the most recent (at the
time anyway) 2.16.0849 when IV 6 arrived. Perhaps I should have tested
it first. Of course, that was before SP1 so who knows what the results
might have been.

You may want to update the BIOS on your motherboard as well. Believe it or
not, we and several customers have had display issues (a big X in going
through the rotate command circle comes to mind) that were resolved by
flashing the motherboard BIOS and then using the latest 3DLabs drivers.
