structured parts lists and iAssemblys

I have an assembly where after creating the drawing I was asked to add an option so I created an iAssembly to include the optional assembly. Origionally my parts list was structured so I could show all the sub-assembly components. Once I created the iAssembly the parts list became single level and even going to the parts  list in the assembly i am unable to change it back to allowing structured.  Is this standard or is there something I am missing. Is there a work around?

Thank you

Hey Jim,

Any chance you can post some images?

Have you ever played with this command in your parts list edit?

BOM.JPG

I allows for certain iparts to be shown in the BOM.  Not sure if it helps in your case, but I thought I would mention it.

Scott,

I had planned to attach the assembly but even zipped it was way to big to attach. Here are a couple of shots of both the BOM and Parts List. As you can see on the parts list there is no + beside the assemblys so they can't be expanded. Even when I right click to change the propertys and allow structured views things are grayed out and I am not able to change it.

I did try messing around with the members to include and the only difference I found was the additional columbs for the extra member assemblies.

Thank you

Jim,

I am thinking you are going to have to do play between the edit parts list command and edit BOM command

to come up with what you are looking for.  Don't think you want to remove the parametricness of the BOM

and just edit it.

You and I are not in SW Kansas anymore!!!  Smiley LOL

Hi Jim,

This is "As Designed" when you configure Assemblies in Inventor. This part list option becomes disabled because of this.

The next logical question then would be... Is there a work around to make Inventor behave as it should rather than as it was programed to?
