return from Crayon Land - rant

Just got done working on a title block, hadn't been in that environment for
a year or so. What a (Edited). I'm wondering if the adesk guy that made the
defaults actually used the editing tools supplied or if it came in from
somewhere else. Basically the whole interface is trial and error and major
frustrating.

1. Text box handles won't attach to drawn boundaries? (Am I missing
something, is this possible?)
2. No access to custom properties of parts? (I'm sure this is possible with
VBA, but why not native, or is it just buried somewhere I didn't look?)
3. No way to measure mismatch of border and tblock when they're not right?
(Anybody?) (Guess this is my fault I should have put that odd ball dimension
back after I got done trimming and extending.)
Basically just clunky junk. (Is there a way to use the actual part modeling
sketch environment to create this little beauty?)

Thanks for the tutorial Sean, cause the help is almost worthless (could
almost be used as sales giberish).

The masters of drawing documents should provide better tools than this.
(More underpowered or defective features.) You know if no fetures were
actually added to 8, but everything that is defective or underpowered was
fixxed, we'd have one (Edited) of a design tool.

More:
4. Once the text is stacked up it's almost impossible to select resize,
because you highlight the other surrounding text? (How do you deal with this
one gents?)

Try going into Tools, Document settings and selecting a custom Property Source IPT. You
should then be able to use custom properties in the Tblock

You did not have to delete the dimensions from your title block. They can
stay forever and they do not show up when using the title block.

Text insert point do not connect to existing geometry. You have to zoom
in real close and eye-ball it. Very "Professional", eh?

Removing the dimension was necesary in order to change the layout of the
boundary, I just forgot to put the overall back before I began dimenisioning
the areas for some additional text and the overal got changed.

I had placed a sketch point at one corner of the paper and fixed it.
Everything in the titleblock was dimensions together until two dimensions
were left. The the whole thing was dimensioned to the point.

As a further testimonial on how "finished" this whole text alignment issue
is at the moment; if you turn the grid snap on, the text insert point will
snap to the grid but once it is "bumped", all alignment is lost.

This "snap to grid" behavior was actually an ADDED FEATURE sometime back (?)
in the 5-5.3 releases.

Gee, that was a most helpful feature

Sorry, I replied before I actually tried this. Which .ipt should I choose
and what happens if it is actually an .iam? I have a custom property that I
assign parts that I would like to endup in the tblock. This has got to be
basic functionality and simple?

Thank

Greg

You should be able to just use any file that contains the custom properties you want.
Going from memory, but I believe I added what I needed to my template file and then used
that as the source. Not sure, but I think you can use a IAM instead.
