good thing, but for the most part this has not seemed to cause any problems.

That's what we always do. With every new release I'm always afraid there
will be something new added to the templates that will cause me trouble
because I'm using an old set of templates.
I have been kindly reminded that just migrating the templates is not the
best practice. Most of us have a lot on our plates and rebuilding a
template file is not really that high on the priority list, but it is the
best practice. By starting from the default templates that Autodesk has
provided you can reduce the risk of bringing bad data forward. Just
something to think about. I will probably be making the effort to update
all or most of my templates this time around.
