"measure loop" parameter possible?

Has anyone ever tried to get the result of a "measure loop" command from a sketch into a user defined parameter? Pro/E used to have an option that allowed you to do something similar if I recall correctly. I think it was called a "measure parameter".

You can get so close you can almost touch it. The Rectangular Pattern command will allow you to pattern along a path of which it will report the length of that path in the dialog. But, alas, the reported distance does not exist as a parameter.
