modeling question

I've used inventor for a month but I haven't been able to figure out how to create complex curved shapes. The loft tool is pretty limited and when creating 3d sketches I can't use splines.

I have 3ds max background and I'm just aching for spline cages and nurbs surfaces.

Let's say I wanted to make a shape like the hood of a car. How would I do it? Can someone at least point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Vincent

vverkerk,

Have a poke around with the 3dSketch - "3D intersection" tool. You can
create some more complex definitions using this.

Thanks for the reply Kent. Already looked at the 3d sketch and it seems pretty limited. The only way I can generate curves in the 3dsketcher is to us an intersection of curved geometries. This seems way over complicated. I guess inventor just wasn't designed for the complex surfaces of a car body.

There is a sample file in your Autodesk Inventor 7 folder somewhere. Neil Munro at Autodesk has written a couple of tshort tutorials on what you want to do. Search on his name and the title Autodesk Inventor: Shape-Description Tools. I posted a car body a while back either in the old CF or in the new IVCF. You might find it by searching by car or my name. JDMATHER

I was unable to find the car body in the
IVCF.  If someone finds it please let me know.  I would like to take a
look at it.

Thank you,

Vadim

Posted in old Customer Files back on Feb 13 and Feb 26.
Search on my name or file names:

Sculpted Race Car.zip

Red Car.zip

Blue Car.sip

These are examples of using surfaces to sculpt solids that my students did. An image of one of the models appeared in Cadence Magazine article.
