<attn autodesk> Uninstalled KB918118 and still have vanishing text.

I uninstalled KB918118 week after IS pushed the critical patch to us all.
That fixed the problem for all the users here. Yesterday, IS pushed another
patch that also included IE7 (which they then had us uninstall back to 6).
Today, I can't place text in Inventor, but Autocad is just fine. I don't
know if it's related but I also can't view dimension properties in Autocad.

I went to add/remove to double check that KB918118 was gone and it's not on
the list. I just did a search and found zmayer's post about doing a manual
uninstall at C:\windows\ but $NtUninstallKB918118$ is not on the list.
Hidden files ARE viewable and I can see all the other hotfix uninstalls.

Everyone here had the same patches pushed and went through the same
uninstall procedures and I'm the only one I know of who still has vanishing
text. Anyone have any other ideas? Could it still be hidden in the
registry?

Specs are HPxw6200 with XP-sp2, IV11-sp2, Nvidia Quadro FX 3400.

Good to know I'm not alone. 😉 I've got a pole out to the rest of our
users to check on this as well. So far 2 others have come back with the
same problem I'm seeing.

We only had one machine with broken text that actually showed KB918118 in
the updated list so all the rest of the machines I had to restore back to a
date before the infamous KB918118 update snafu to get the text back
(obviously just looking for this particular patch id number and
un-installing it is not enough)

I have the same problem. I have uninstalled KB918118 from Add/Remove program and from C:\windows.

I am still not able to add text or leader text or Datum text. I guess I am not able to work with anything where text is required. .ipt or .idw

Running XP64, unistalled the patch, worked well for a day, then it stopped
working. I've been refusing to re-install it, and it does not show up
anywhere on the computer, either as an update, or in the windows directory.

Not good. I'm back to adding text by hand to the dwgs, to be added to the
IDW's later.

Gary, try rolling back the system via system restore to an earlier date say
the beginning of the month and see what that does; you can always undo it if
you don't like the results.

This is getting really wierd, I am XPPRO SP2 and seen the headsup on this
issue in this NG. Checked my machine and it HAS indeed got KB918118 loaded,
but I have no problems at all with text???

it seems it hasnt happened to everyone, but it's almost like a ticking time bomb.

best to avoid the issue by uninstalling the update imho because as you can see, some people are not able to restore their systems properly once the problem occurs

You're not alone.  I have XP SP2 with
KB918118 installed and I'm not having any problems with Inventor 10 SP3a,
either.

Hi,

Try unistalling "Update for Windows XP (KB920342)".

It worked for us.

Thanks Michael, unfortunately, I don't have KB920342 on my machine. No one
else here does either.

I would REALLY like to hear from Autodesk about this one. This one's
starting to make me very upset. We currently have 3 out of about 35 users
(that I know of) effected by this.

Try this, it worked for me on Inv 11, running on XP x64

Go to one of the good machines.

Look in the C:\windows\system32\ folder and find 'riched20.dll'

Take a copy of it and place it in the Inventor executable folder of the problem machines.

When Inventor starts, it should read that dll, and the text should work again.

Let me know if it works for you. It did for me.

Re: KB918118 inventor patch
We are working very hard on producing a hotfix for this issue.
We are in the validation stage of this hotfix and will be releasing it as
soon as possible.
