I am running Inventor 2012 sp2.
Even with a simple IPT that only has a handfull of features, at times it takes a long time (3-5 minutes, sometimes longer) for Inventor to execute a undo or redo command.
Undo file size setting in Application options is set at 1MB (which is teh same setting I used in previous versions).
I haven't seen this issue before, but now after a receint upgrade to Invetor 2012 from 2010, I am now seeing an issue there.
Any fixes?
Hi,
Could you attach the part file for further investigation?
Thanks,
Stanislav
the issue hasn't been file specific, I have had this issue occur on a lot of files. Other people I work with have been experiencing the same issue.
Is it really at 1 MB or is that a typo?
We have our undo file size set to 1024 MB so inventor actually has some memory to undo stuff.
Does the speed improve if you increase your setting?
(i believe the default was 256)

ah ok, typo...
Anyway, do you see any difference when you change that size (up or down)?
Could there be anything else interfering, like antivirus or such?
I'm on 2013, never used sp2 for 2012... so can't say if it could be related to that...

Hi recordsj,
Just a thought, but if you go to the Tools tab > Application Options button > File tab and look at the Undo file location option, you might try changing that to a different location (network location vs. local location) to see if that changes anything.
I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

It is already pointing to a local folder on the hard drive for the undo.
Are you using ctrl+Z and ctrl+Y to undo and re-do, or are you using the menu icons? I have noticed that some commands take longer with the keyboard than with the menu for some reason. I'm not sure what service pack it started with; but it is definatly something I see in 2012.
You have not supplied enough information to analyze your problem.
Does this happen with all files or only one?
If it happens with all files what are your system specs?
Did it use to work correctly, is this a new problem?
Is the problem really with the file you are working on now?
If so, attach the file here.
The long time for an undo or redo happens on all and every file (no matter if it is a simple IPT or multiple part IAM). Multle people I work with have this same problem on there computers as well. Even from a reboot the issue is still there. Currently using Inventor 2012, before upgrading to 2012 we were using 2011 which the problem was not there.
System:
Inventor 2012
win 7 64 bit
16 GB ram
Intel Xeon quad core 3GHz
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700
Have you installed all Service Packs?
Something is wrong with your hardware or with the install.
It will probably require someone (your VAR) on-site to diagnose the problem source.
Here is a question that may answer your issue..
Is this a stand alone Computer or connected to a server?
Some companies have there window running through the server.
To check go to the properties of you desktop if it has the server name then this is why undo and redoes take forever..
computer connected to a server, but this issue only appeared when we upgraded to 2012. When using 2011 this issue wasn't there and computers were still connected to a server.
also when I save files locally on my computer hard drive and only have open files that are saved on my computer hard drive, the issue is still there, so I don't think it is an issue of the computer connected to a server.
