same here with IV 11 the eggspurts said reduce projects but that did not
help much.

On old, slow hardware, I wouldn't be surprised. On yours, something's wrong.... Check that your drives are using DMA mode and not PIO.

Is that just the first time?
If you close it and reopen does it open faster.

Mine is typically about 1 min 30 sec for the first time and like 45 seconds after that.

Do you have alot of add-ins that might load at startup?
Lots of project files?

Lester:

FWIW it takes 1:12 on my Pentium 4 3.6 GHz 4 meg.

It appears to take a bit longer than IV11 but I only do it once a day
(knock on wood).

The 2-1/2 minutes was right after close and reopen. I haven't timed a first
time start up but its longer.
As for add-ins and project files, they are the same as I had in Inventor 11
and it was much quicker.
No problems once its up and running but this sure seems like a long time to
get started.

Two users here experienced a big slowdown at startup a few weeks ago. I do
not know what caused it (Windows hotfix maybe?) but I realized they were
both using older Nvidia drivers (81.67) and using nview desktop manager.
Disabling nview desktop manager relieved the problem, but after updating
driver problem went away.

I am curious if this is related to your probem...

That fixed it!!! Thanks alot
45 second on first start up and 30 seconds on second start up.
But with new driver my setting for double monitor is al screwed up. Nothing
is ever easy. Except for inventer 2008 :>)

yeah you may have to re-enable your nview desktop manager and change your
settings back, but I'm glad this worked for you.

We've also seen a notable improvement in start-up time after running defrag
on your hard drive.

nview seems to do much more harm than good. It should would be nice to easily disable it or even get a version from nVidia completely without it !

I carried out a test on my M60 with NVIDIA disabled.

Admittedly IV has not been run on it for a month or more but it took a full
6 minutes to load.............and there are no projects loaded.

I then closed IV and it reloaded in 45 seconds.

30 seconds for a subsequent startup seems a bit long, on a fast workstation
it should be closer to 10-12 seconds, and that's AIP with all the default
add-ins loaded. 45 sec isn't bad for a first time startup, but as Andrew
pointed out, defragging will help this. You can also unload any add-ins that
you don't use. As an experiment, you might try killing as many background
processes as you can (Anti-virus, etc.) to see if this reduces the 30
seconds.

Lon can you help me on this one?
I had every thing back to normal than something happened that my curser will
not cross between monitor in the center. I have to move the curser to the
left on the left monitor until it shows up on the right side of the right
monitor.
I know there is a way to switch this, but I can't seem to find it.

Robert
I will experiment as you said and see if I can get it faster yet. thanks

I think that by default, NView is disabled. However the Control panel is
needed to config dual monitors

You can tell Windows how to arrange monitors in display options, which I
don't think requires nview, but is limited to span mode. But I use nview to
set up the "Dual View" option which gives you more control over dialog
placement, and enables the taskbar to span monitors.
