ipart updates causing problems in Assy's

Hi All
This is my first posting to the newsgroup and concerns the use of iparts and
embedded spreadsheets. Hope someone can help.
THE SITUATION
A branch of our company (global sites) have created a fastener ipart factory
with an attached data spreadsheet. This has been used create the child parts
(upon insertion into an assembly).
This fastener ipart enables all the required choice for our companies
standards ie part No.length etc and is used in all Assemblies. Typically
there could be over a hundred different fasteners in an assembly. I would
like to adopt this method to create our local iparts/standards etc
THE PROBLEM
After using this ipart fastener for a while, a new part No or length was
required and added to the spreadsheet/factory part, The effect of this is
now IV wants to update every occurrence of the spreadsheet in our
assemblies. (100+ occurrences) even if that particular fastener does not
exist in that assy. This causes load up time to be really slow and often
crashes.

Is there a solution to this issue or a work around.before we possibly go
down this path and have lots of rework to do!
The spreadsheets cannot be removed from the child (derived)parts. Would
placing the iparts within a library structure resolve the problem.?
The only solution can currently think of is to create individual fasteners
(save copy as) and strip the spreadsheet from it. Unfortunately this removes
the ease of selection of fastener which iparts give the user.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Kindest Regards

Hi Andy,

There is a VB sample shipped with Inventor that

will update existing members of an iPart factory.

You can run this as a batch process when you modify

the factory.

I don't have access to it right now, so I can't

say exactly what it is called.

Hope that helps.
