importing from MDT, subassemblies are annoying

I have several assemblies in MDT5 format that, when I import them, have
each part in its own separate subassembly, with the same name as the part.

All parts should be directly under the main assembly with no subassemblies
at all. Now I have to promote each part individually which is a nuisance
especially considering the browser collapses itself every time you promote
a part now. (Tried highlighting all of them and promote all at once, but
IV didn't approve and performed a power exit.)

Is there any way to avoid creating all these useless subassemblies?

Are you sure you used "single part" templates in MDT? I am guessing you actually do have
subs in the MDT drawing, but they each only have one part? It might be easier and cleaner
to promote them in MDT because they maintain constraints and then translate. You should
get what you want with the added benefit of the constraints working.

If I am wrong about the MDT file can you post it to customer files?

Kent,

I didn't create the MDT files, and know very little about MDT.

I can check the files and see whether they have subassemblies. How do I
promote in MDT?

Drag and drop in the browser. Much easier and cleaner in MDT than in Inventor IMO.
