Wouldn't it be cool if there was a hole tool like what Ryan and Drew made, built into
Inventor, and it also automatically added a named imate when you made the hole. Then in
assembly mode you would just have to insert your iParts with pre setup imate names that
matched and everything would fall together.

Yup!
Or even better, if you could select your screw, bolt, or PEM and the correct
hole size is placed on your part.

Nice concept but would need to be configurable so that you don't get useless iMates placed on holes that don't have items inserted into them like a pattern of air holes in a vent or weight reduction hole cutouts. Also, which side of the hole gets an iMate?

That would be simple. It would just be another column on the table and you could add a
imate name or not.

The side that the hole sketch is on would be what I would expect for the side to get the
mate.

Thanks Rory! I finally got a chance to look at this. Looks good, but money
(lack of) is an issue. $2400 is a bit much.

Karl,
No. Assembly features don't modify the actual .ipt file. During part design,
I would like to be able to pick a PEM nut, stud, etc. and have the appropriate
hole placed on the .ipt file, plus since this PEM has to be added in the
assy, add the insert constraint at the same time.
