Yes, in the parameter list the last box on the right enables exporting of the parameter so it is available to other files, such as the BOM, drawing file. etc.

You can also link this to another file if you want to use that parameter in another part. To do this open the part you want to link the parameter too. Open parameters > click the link button at the bottom, navigate to the file you want to get the parameter from and select it and open. A small parameter window will appear. change the greyed circle to yellow on the parameter you want to import by clicking it. if it is not set for export it will then give you the choice to include it or cancel. You should know that a linked paramter can only be changed in the original part, but its value can be assigned to any paramter in any part or used in a formula such as parameter/2, etc. Some exceptions exists such as multi-value parameters.

This comes in handy when you know you have 10 parts all the same length but different widths lets say. By Linking all the length to a master part, all lengths will update by changing one part dimension.

you are showing numeric type.

numeric type in parameter  displays the export box, but the text type doesnt give the option to export it.

the xport box doesnt show.

Change it to unitless, Inventor doesn't really care whats in a unitless parameter. Or I shpould say make another below it as unitless, copy and paste, delete original and then rename that one to the original.

I use iLogic for this.

iProperties.Value("Custom", "example") = example

I have an idea posted in the idea station for allowing for export of text parameters here:

Yah, realized that, so edited post and included links where it has been solved, but definately need to support it in the idea forum.
