how to draw a glowing/illuminated neon tube lamp ?

Hi everybody,

How can I make out of a cylinder, a glowing/illuminated neon tube lamp?

My idea is to fix a neon tube lamp on a concrete-wall and let it glow in turquoise behind an expanded metal (fence).

Should theoretically create a nice shaddow on the wall.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance !

Thanx

If you haven't already done the Bill Bogan's Inventor Studio tutorials I would start there. Then attach what you are able to get done here.

I have never heared about "Bill Bogan's Inventor Studio tutorial" ??? I also have no time to read it now - I would need help in the next days.
I tought that someone of the community can explain in short and easy words how to proceed.
I can imagine that the procedure is not too difficult.

Your gonna have to do some learning.. But basically you create a cylinder or whatever shape your bulb is, assign its material as glass, go into the studio environment, add lights/local lights to simulate your bulbs light output and render.

you would think that by assigning an emissive
colour it would instantly become a light-source and radiate its
colour upon surrounding objects, but from memory it doesn't.  (hope
this is coming in the future).  May be wrong, but always thought the
emissive colour value is light that is given off by the object - so if this is
the case, then makes sense to use it to create such lighting.

AFAIK, you'll have to create a light-source in
front of the lamp with the desired colour - can't remember if it will work
if the light is inside a glass-fronted model of the lamp as i have a feeling the
shadow of the glass will be calculated but no shadows beyond that -
probably wrong tho as it's been a few years and a number of Iv releases since
I've played with such things.

To get your desired effect you may have to play
with both the material's emissive value (to get it to glow) and a spot-light
infront of it (to cast shadows) - eg a red neon sign would be a 3d-sweep with a
red material, dark-red emissive value & a red spot (with a large angle of
spread) infront of it.

Hope that makes sense and helps.

An hour or two would save many hours.

If you want someone to do it for you you will need to attach your files here.

Hi everybody,

It took me 2 hours but mcgyvr's hint was enough to get a first result ! Thank you ! You are right it is an arduous job - there is no recipe. You have to adjust all paremeters until you get a first result. Attached a first image.

thanx

Thanks for all your information. Neon light is the best one to decorate your home or some events.
