elbow development

Dear All,

I am facing problem with elbow unfolding. I have made elbow in part modeling using swipe command.

That elbow is going to fabricate on shell find attachment for the same.

I have to make elbow development for the fitting on shell.

I made elbow in part model and convert in sheet metal and tried with rip commane but it not working.

I tried with rip command but it not working.

Could  you help me ?.

Create the elbow using the CONTOUR ROLL command.

Kindly save your file in lower version. I have Inventor porfessinonal 2011.

Not possible to save files as a previous version in Inventor.

Wonder if one can really flat pattern from contour roll.  The flat pattern is shown in rectangular shape and yet one would find it difficult to accept that the rectangular shape can be rolled to form a hollow elbow.  Maybe we should not agree fully with what the software indicates.

I,m just wondering if this is some sort of School/Collage assignment?

In the past few days I've seen 3 or 4 post on similar lines by different people.

TOP & BOTTOM IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FLATTEN THIS TYPE OF PIPE ELBOW INTO A FLAT PATTERN even in the days of drawing boards and pencils we could not do it.

Using mathematics, I think we could flatten it.  Lets divide the circumference into sections and then calculate the arc length of the arc for that section.  On a piece of paper, simply lay the lines hortizontal with the computed arc length in the x-direction and circumference in the y-direction.

Your right - it could be done on drawing board with calculations and knowledge of the material and process.

Inventor cannot create correct flat pattern for this shape.
