cuts in sheet metal part

I made a part in sheet metal and used the Cut tool for cut-outs...i tried by using flatten Patern,draw sketch but this did not cut part...is there a more better way of making these cuts?

Unfold (not Flat Pattern) Cut, Refold.

I did it a bit different to JDMather.

I created a work plane tangent to the curved surface, added a sketch, drew a rectangle and then CUT the sketch through the part. Different method but same result.
