Is this a one off comand......where you specify a parting line then click
ok......core and cavity are automatically generated.......or is it create a
new part inside an assembly extrude to surface then subtract the old fashion
autocad way....

inventor?

In Inventor, you create the core and the cavity, then assemble them
together. Create a new derived part using the assembly as the 'base' and
then subtract the core.

I don't create core/cavities with the same method - so there are different methods. Inventor is not AutoCAD.

Do you have a url to examples of your work? I am familiar with the SWX work of Ed, Matt, Paul and Bruce, but I don't recall ever seen your name before.

Why don't you download and find out for yourself? It is a standalone
program.

Having not looked at Inventor for five years or so i thought you guys would
be more advanced.........had the local rep call on us.......wondering if any
one has ideas on how to create shut offs and or sliding cores using
inventor......as this guy could not help.

The autocad subtract command in fast on simple parts but when you have a
staggered parting line or complex surfaces it is more of a head ache than
anything else.......

Maybe inventor should just checkout what the options are in solidworks
rather than suggesting that geometry is geomerty....it can only improve your
software

Or resit your CSWP exam?

>Are you serious this is standard in base level solidworks

This is just free start on B-side features, not on tooling.

Most (admitedly not all) of the functionality in SolidWorks can be done with
standard tools. In fact most of the tools on the "Mold Toolbar" in SWX are
renamed duplicates of tools available elsewhere in the SWX program.
Geometry is geometry.

" shut offs and or sliding cores"

if i knew what those were I probably could, but I'd need to see some examples
