Virtual components has no description in part List or BOM

I created several virtual components for things like labels. Unfortunately,
no description shows up in the IDW part list
referencing the assembly that has the virtual parts. They don't show up in
the BOM either. Lines are all blank.

I did edit the Component name (under Component Settings) in the IAM after I
created each one

What am I doing wrong? If this is intended behavior then what's the point of
virtual parts?

You need to go into the BOM editor and add them
or RMB on them and select properties and go to the Project tab

I have already submitted a wishlist item that this can be added in 1 step during the initial "create part" dialog when the virtual component checkbox is selected.

It is not clear to me where you typed in the descriptions originally. Can you explain?

Virtual parts work just like any other part with respect to properties, except that they exist locally in the assembly. If you type into the VP iproperty description, it willshow up in the BOM.

Note: because VP's don't have their own file, you can't access VP properties from Window explorer. You need to either right-click on them in the assembly browser and select or use the BOM.

Katrin,

I created each virtual part within the IAM file checking the virtual part
check box & entered the part name there upon creation. Then I changed what I
thought was the description by RMB editing "Component Name" of each VP
(under "Component Settings").

I'm thinking that the Component Settings edit is what took away the
description from the BOM/PList. I haven't been able to check yet but it
probably would have been fine if I didn't edit them. That means there is a
problem with editing Component Name under "Component Settings".
