Video driver problems

After installing the latest video driver (Nvidia Quadro 4 750 XGL)from the Autodesk driver list, my computer locks up occasionally while working in Inventor. Doe anyone know if there is a problem with drivers for this video card, or could the installation perhaps have reset something in the registry? I haven't been able to learn much from the event log after the lock-ups. System is Windows 2000 Professional (sp 4) running on Pentium 2.2 Gh with 1Gb ram.
Thanks.

I run a quadro 4 550 xgl and use 44.03 drivers.
after constantly updating drivers my pc got so messed up that I had to format the hard drive. I noticed that the driver before the latest would not load. ie it was meant for only the new generation cards. but the latest 45.23 did load. then some of my apps refused to start up. I got the message 'open gl not found or something'.
in the end I formatted the pc and did one driver upgrade to 44.03 and now I am too scared too touch the video drivers again. my pc runs perfect and is well left alone.
remember if you have been through a couple of cycles of installing and deleting drivers the registry is crammed with left over bits and pieces, plus there are all sorts of extra *.dll in the windows directory that you are never going to find. all these dll's start up every time and start clashing. so in the end look at the time involved. a format plus reloading everything takes half a day, and messing arround with drivers can take more time than that.
there is no doubt a way to get the 45.23 drivers working but I dont have a week to figure it out.

Drivers ......oh tell us, the 45.23 cased my constraint in sketch not to
preview. Quadro 2.
So I wound back to the recommended 40.72 (Nvidia only recommends 40.72 for
IV) when I got to 44.03 the sketch constraint icons are waaaaaavy so which I
can probably live with.
I am lucky that I have never reformatted my computer cause I have not seen
the need yet! Lots of alarm bells ringing there................. You might
have seen mentioned in manuals Sunday afternoon tinkering under the hood
(bonnet) is / can be /usually and highly probably will have a detrimental
effect on reliability.
This rule still rings true to me when I tried to force start my ADSL line by
deleting the network adapter, a common fix for driver anomalies but this
time a down time of a day then when I was on the verge of becoming bald
after following windows suggestion of reinstalling the OS twenty times. I
thought just install the driver for the adapter and hey presto its works
dohhhhhhh.

My old dial up modem misbehaved and any attempt to install the correct
driver failed unless you loaded (that's physically) the driver from a floppy
and not your hard disk!.........

So that's 1 don't fix what aint broke and 2 we live and
learn.....................it is Friday.

I agree but, if you want your pc to perform you need to format your drive at least once per year, just to get rid of all the debris that windows collects in the registry.
but I agree. if it works leave it alone.

Occasional crashes are not that unusual in IV. There are driver issues,
however most of them are being addressed. I have been using the 44.72
drivers with the latest registry update without significant problems
since the first of Sept.

See Richard Rankin post of 8/27/03 for driver and registry info.

It is interesting to note that the HW lib doesn't always use the same settings for a 550XGL compared to a 750 compared to a 980 etc. That said my 550 works good with the 45.23 using the 44.72 settings.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing at home. I have an ELSA Synergy 2000
that doesn't like the 44.72 drivers, so I have to use the 44.03 w/ the
R7 Registry update.

on the 550xgl, any measurable improvement in performance going from 44.03 to latest ie 45.23 ??

I've only used the 45.23 on this card. Lets face it, these are mature drivers the only real changes going on is for the new DirectX 9 gaming stuff. Oh, and the FSAA + aniso stuff Nvidia got nailed on because they tweaked their drivers to get better benchmark scores.
