Unable to import Inventor 6 (SP1) SAT file into AutoCAD 2002

Inventor 5.3 SAT files can be brought into AutoCAD 2002 drawings, but not
Inventor R6 or SP1 SAT files. AutoCAD complains about either file version
or file type.

Is there a workaround, or must this issue be addressed with a Service Pack
or R7?

In "save copy as" dialog, click on options, turnversion down
to 6.

Jim,

Once you specify the filename, hit the options button in the save dialog
and bump the SAT version down to 6.0.

By "turning it down a notch" aka a reverse Emeril Lagasse, did the trick. I
would imagine that future versions of AutoCAD will incorporate a newer
version of the ACIS Kernel, no?

Thanks Quinn and Darvinv for your replies!

I would guess new acads will read SAT 7 since they are built on new ASM
kernel which was founded on ACIS 7. But beyond 7 it wont be called ACIS
(SAT) as adesks licencing of acis stopped at R7. I have no idea if there
will be a new exchange format developed for ASM as it moves forward. Imagine
if autodesk set a standard for fully featured exchange.

drew,
Isn't that where Open Step and Open CNC are supposed to
be taking us? What would be wrong with co-operating with
those efforts?
