I am making an ID tag that will be welded to a 12 sided tapered steel pole. I have to bend the tag to fit the pole. That part I can handle. I haven't had any trouble with embossing before but I haven't had to deal with a polygonal object either. As you will see in the attached screen shot I need to emboss the text onto the tag and have it stay true to the bends. I'm sure I can find a work around but it would be great if I didn't have to. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You might modeling it in folded form as sheet metal part.
Then run Unfold and use whatever tools needed to create design.
Then Refold and finally Flat Pattern if needed.
Can you attach the file here?
For this example I used a 12 sided taperd pole 6' long 8" AFF at bottom, 5" AFF at top.
Using the bend command after the emboss was created allowed me to achieve this.
I've attached the part (INV 2012) for you to examine.
This is one way to do it, there are probably other methods as well.
