Template modification

I am having problems with my drawing template, I can make changes no problem, but when I use the template to start a new idw file the changes are not in place.

For example; view preferences, I want to work in third angle, I have this selected on the template but each time I start a new idw I have to change it from 1st angle.

e.g. 2; sheet size, I changed it from text to a drawing property, but it doesn't change when I edit the sheet size.

I expect someone will suggest the template I am editing is not the same as the one I am using, but I have already checked this.

Hi!

After changing some styles settings in the Styles Editor you have saved the IDW file to the template location. However, when you used the template for a new file the settings were lost. This is because your project is set to use a styles library and you therefore need to save the changes to the Styles Library to make them available in other files.

  1.  In your project dialog box, change the Style Library option to Read & write
  2. Copy the IDW file to the template folder.
  3. Open the template and make the necessary changes to the styles.
  4. Click Format menu > Save Styles to Style Library.
  5. Save and close the template file.

Now, when you create a new document using the updated template file, the changes to the styles will be reflected.

Stephen,

Welcome to the forum.

On top of what Maria said, don't forget to change the styles library back to R/O when you are done.

Thanks for your help, initially i struggled to bring up the view preferences tab in style editor, but stumbled across it eventually. Now I have third angle activated in the project.

Consider it half solved as I am still unable to change the sheet size from dumb text to a sheet property, if I rt click on the title block in the model browser, and pick edit definition, I can bring up the dialogue box highlight the text "A3", select sheet properties, select sheet size, hit ok, save the changes but still nothing happens when I change the sheet size. I can however delete the text which is preferable to having the wrong sheet size.

When i have mastered this I will also get the sheet no. and no.of sheets field to populate automatically.

by the way, this was my first post, previously my queries went to my reseller

Hello Stephen,

For the 3rd angle project, it's unable to be added into template. It's decrible clearly in Help:

Projection style: The projection type is controlled by the active standard. You can switch between first-angle and third-angle on the View Preferences tab of the Standard style. The change affects only the current drawing unless you save the setting to the style library. All other drawings that use that standard are updated with the changed projection.

For the sheetsize, you could edit the sheet to change the size, sheet size will be changed. If it's unable to get correct result, could you tell us which version you are using? Have you installed service pack?

Hello Jingy, thanks for your help, I am using 2013 version with no service
pack installed.

I fixed the projection problem.
The sheet size I could not achieve the desired result (populate
automatically), so I deleted the text from the template.

I have a problem similar to this thread.  I am in the process of modifying my Inventor template for everyone and some of the things in it work right but the titles are wrong.  Now I know that so its easy for me to just ignore but now since I need to distribute this to the rest of the users I would like to it to read correctly.  I edit my template and everything looks right and reads right but when I start a new dwg. half of the changes revert back.  I just want to have four standard Title Blocks A,B,C,D and have the prompted dialog boxes to lable them correctly and the tree to show the right names also.  When I open the template directly everything is right, if i start a new dwg. they are wrong.  I've tried changing the read/write, save as a template, and just about anything else my tired brain can think of.  Has anybody dealt with this before?  I hope its just something minor I'm missing but right now its driving me crazy.
