Structural memebers driven by excel

I use the excel driven structural shapes quite a bit. I need a way to get
the chosen size to be writen to some property field that can be lilsted in
the Parts List. For example, if I open the C Channel file, then edit the
excel sheet and chose the C12x25, I would like this size to be written to
the Description property field.

Why not make it a custom iPart (to drive the length)? There are only a
finite # of possible sizes for a standard channel. In fact I think Charles
might have one on his site.

When I save a part, I want the part number and the filename to be the same.
When I insert the custom iPart into my assembly, I have to tell it what the
filename is (ex. G3032-435-ab). The columns in my BOM are Item, Part
Number, Description and Qty. With a custom iPart, what will be shown in the
Part Number column is "Equal Leg Angle" (or whatever the iPart parent is
named), not the filename that I gave it.

I don't see an easy way to get everything that I want unless I have to
manually edit each part after it is created (bummer).

Any Suggestions?

Not so, a custom iPart will be given a name "Part1.ipt" and be placed in the
workspace if you don't specify a name and location upon insertion
