Strange Split Error

Hi,

I am trying to split the attached hollow box into 2 pieces using a custom stitched surface (Stitch Surface12 in the ipt file).

Create parting line failed

Splitting Practice.ipt: Errors occurred during update

Split2: Could not build this Split

Interestingly, when I use the "Trim Solid" option on the split, it works perfectly - i.e. I can get either the top half or the bottom half of the box. But I cannot get both using the "Split Solid" option. Can anyone shed light on why this is happening?

Greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ismail

In many cases it's good, if the splitting tool is larger than the body. See file

But extension is only possible to the outside. Why?

Later: I've seen. It's caused by both 171.98 degree angled faces near Extrusion2

I just found if I extended the two side surface and the Split Solid can works. Please refer to the attached part. BTW, if you use the Split Face, your original stitched surface also OK.

Thanks everyone for looking into this and providing excellent solutions. I will be sure to extend any split surfaces going forward.

Best,
Ismail
